Ryan Borses is a performer and composer currently living in Tampa, Florida.  He holds  a B.F.A. in Musical Theatre Performance with a concentration in Songwriting and Performance Repertoire from The Boston Conservatory.  He is the creator of the original musical, Nobody's Home: A Rock Odyssey, and has a significant portfolio of his own cabaret numbers, both comedic and dramatic.

Ryan's most recent shows include The 25th Annual Putnam Spelling Bee, Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, and Young Charles Dickens.  Ryan is currently starring as Jason (and Tyrone) in Hand to God at B Street Theatre in Sacramento, California.

Ryan Borses hails from Austin, Texas, where his passion for musical theatre ignited as a boy and has burned brightly ever since.  He has been training, performing, and writing ever since he was allowed near a stage.  St. Stephen's Episcopal School's Theatre Focus program allowed him the opportunity to perform many exciting roles, including the title character in Tommy and Floyd Collins, as well as the chance to direct his peers and travel to exciting performance venues such as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland.

Ryan has recently concluded his education at The Boston Conservatory, where he had the honor and privilege to study for four years, and will be eagerly moving on to New York with a B.F.A. in Musical Theatre.  Ryan rounded out his exciting final year at the Conservatory as William Barfée in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Toby Belch in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, and Amory DuPres in John Mercurio’s new musical Academy.

Since high school, Ryan has been writing pop/rock and theatre music, accompanying himself on piano and guitar.  With 8 years of songwriting experience, Ryan now has a full-length musical under his belt, and has dedicated himself to creating exciting new musical theatre pieces, both for his own solo performances, and for mainstream distribution.

In addition, Ryan is a part-time tutor/essay coach and arranger-for-hire, as well as an aspiring voice actor.  He is very excited to hit the city, and he and his devoted and supportive family are beyond excited to see what the future has in store!

Ryan's first completed musical, Nobody's Home, is a high-octane feminist rock adaptation of The Odyssey.  He has transformed the original Greek setting into one that is modern, relatable, and metatheatrical.  Ryan wrote the book and score in their entirety, and has workshopped the show extensively at The Boston Conservatory.  Ryan hopes to one day see its full realization on a major stage.

The basic plot of Nobody’s Home is as old as literature itself: Odysseus, crafty and indomitable hero of the Trojan War, makes the final push to return home to his family after a twenty-year absence plagued by monsters and divine wrath` Back in IIthaca, a swarm of greedy and misogynistic suitors clamor for the attention of his loyal Penelope, and he must recruit his abandoned son Telemachus to drive them out.

It’s the same old story… with a few vital changes.  Along with the chorus, Odysseus is surrounded by six players who cover the entire array of characters that populate his tale based on the literary archetypes they fit.  The Bard, the passionate young narrator who unwittingly falls into Telemachus’ role, embarks on a parallel quest to retrace his father’s steps, reconnect with the humiliated Monster and scorned Witch, and emerge a greater hero than Ody could ever be.

Furthermore, Ryan has a significant portfolio of stand-alone musical theatre songs written for young singers’ cabarets and auditions, many of which will soon be available for sale.  Much of Ryan's composition work is meant to address the lack of performance rep available for teenagers and young adults, providing them with entertaining and skillfully-crafted music in their own voice to help them make them impact they want on audiences. Next on his list of songwriting endeavors is a musical exploration of the Slenderman mythos.
